Every Life

“Every life!”
The old one said.
“Every life!
Every single life!”

“The despised,
The loved,
The rich,
The poor.”

“Every life,
Across the globe,
Through race and class
And black and white,
Every life!”

“But you can’t mean every life,
Not everyone is the same.”

“Every life!”
He said again,
As he sat on
The street,
With his hat
And his cane,
And looked
Into to my
Eyes and said,
“Even mine.”
