Wisdom thrown
generously on willing ground
never fails to give
its fertile self to the cause.
But that is not the wisdom
I desire or seek, for it’s easy
and always grows the
grand impressive crop
that is the fruit of books, gatherings
and retreats for those
who can afford its luscious taste.
No. That is not the path that
holds the mystery for me.
I seek instead the harder way
of paths that cross the barren lands
of doubt and trial where nothing
is certain except the seeker and
the mystery that reveals itself
not in the sprouting and the growth
but in the roots that lie beneath.
