Haikus of hope

The year begins sadly,
But life reforms from tears
And joy’s tender face visits again.

The storm unleashes its flood,
And the dry desperate ground refreshes,
So the new shoots appear.

Fire ravages the landscape,
But creatures large and small return
And plants reveal their colours again.

The funeral march goes to its destination,
But across the road a baby cries
As new life comes out to greet the day.
