Eternal fall

The rain falls steady

and the clouds

hang heavy,

bringing their

threatening load

of opal drops

to the soggy

tired ground.

Children walking

from school

splash and kick through

puddles deep,

covering their shoes

with water and sticky mud,

as the insistent rain finds

its way into

every shape and

form and being

of the outside world.

And inside the sound

of its eternal fall

is heard patting roofs

and slurping

though gutters,

as the birds hide

in trees and flick

and play with

the life-giving flow.
