Honesty is not fully possible,

for thoughts candid and feelings raw

are always held back

and passed through the social filter

of protection and niceties

that always have sway in the

ordered exchanges and shifting relationships

that form the social substance

of our lives.

Honesty is only ever for the

private space of one who thinks and feels

but then shapes disclosure in

the language that others want to hear.
