The statue of Lincoln
sits in the Capital
of the land of the free,
not just as a reminder
embodied in
cold bloodless stone,
but as an eternal
and immortal witness to all
that America now
claims to be.
The statue looks
proudly across this
place of decision,
and with his glance
and penetrating stare,
formed in the
fiery kiln of racial division,
he patiently demands
that American becomes
all that it claims to be:
that for everyone who treads
its lands and dwells
in peace within
it’s borders,
America fully is
the body of its creed,
and truly practices its vision of
becoming the land of the just
and the place of the free.
