I will bake
a cake for you,
and then sit
in the silence of now,
and hold you close
in our eating together.
I shall cut
a sweet slice
far too large,
but not large enough
to fill that wretched
and bitter empty space
that has opened up
inside your soul.
And when our
sumptuous cake eating
is ceremoniously done,
and we both feel suitably ill,
I will hold you still
ever closer in
our remaining
time together
in grief’s dark cave.
