Abandoning love

I have abandoned love,

for it takes all and gives

nothing back and it

controls the lover

but will not be controlled.

Love turns the lover

around and around

in painful expectation,

and so I give love

away and spurn its

acid tender ways

that burn and

only leave scars.

And once abandoned

I am free to live

beyond love and

far from the claws

that have painfully

pieced my heart

and left me in this

bleeding bloody

painful mess.
