The world is
in our mind
and our mind
is in the world.
There lies the paradox.
And with our mind
we seek to
go beyond
what the senses
give us of the world,
the empty world,
and look for the
world’s essence,
the Absolute.
Are we but imprisoned
like an oyster in a shell,
as Plato says?
Or can we see
beyond the world
created from the senses
to the Absolute,
to the Truth?
The Truth is out there,
so they say.
Ah, but what is the Truth
and where does it lay?
In truth, are there
but truths,
large and small,
that we tell and retell
so they appear to be
the Absolute
from our oyster shells?
