The swirling storm cares not
for you or I, cares not for
the broken banks of rivers
that move out to swallow
up this land, cares not for
the sunken towns that lie
beneath its awful rage.
We are helpless in its path
and we have no dominion
over earth or seas, even if
that was god’s command,
for we are creatures who
suffer loss, though we wish
to believe that the earth
is ours and ours alone.
