Equality is an idea
loaded as much
with fear as it is
with promise.
Equality is not free;
it is bought at great
price, with effects
that we cannot perceive
or really fathom.
Equality disrupts
and slices into
the neat order
of the cake
that we have
always eaten.
Equality brings losers
and it brings winners,
and even the innocent
are subject to
its shifts and
to the changes
that take all that is
and replace it
with the troubling unknown.
Equality has a beautiful face,
that we should all see,
but take care of
it’s deadly tail.
