I will perform for you,

on this the wooden stage of

living and being who

I am told I should be.

 

I will shape my body

just so that it is acceptable

for you as I make my role 

and take my place on the bill.

 

And you will perform with me,

side to side in our gentle deceit,

and we will speak our lines

according to the script.

 

I will play for you, play for you,

with the colour of my voice 

and the swish of my body in
