This country
is our home,
the home
that was home
long before
whites came
to conquer
and take away
the home.
This ancient land,
with its grand expanses
and enchanting pockets
of uniquenesses unfurled,
like the desert rose,
contains
all of us in
its ample
and nurturing
southern womb.
And we are
here together
as one people,
with one home,
kin of one country,
bound fully together
and united,
race with race,
first people with those
who came later,
hand with hand,
becoming all
that this land
wants us to
grow into,
wants us
to be.
