Perhaps what kings and queens
and systems that have
been around for hundreds
of years represent, to those
who still hold them close
with nostalgia, is the myth of
certainty, and in continuity
the reassurance that change
cannot affect us for the king
is still around and on his throne.

And god is on his throne too
in paradise, so what is there to
fear as trouble comes for his
kingdom will last forever,
beyond this temporary abode.

We want this reassurance like
a warm hug and sitting in front
of a fire on a cold night, home again.

For nothing, not the danger of now
or the coming threats, nor the precarious
movement of this planet through
the universe, can disturb the conviction
that in the end, all will be okay.

Till in the distance, there is the
ringing continuous of the iron bell.
