We spend our lives
and energies building
these well-engineered
walls around each other,
to separate us, to confine
and to control,
to keep out,
protect and keep in.
These walls are engineered
as beautifully as a skyscraper
or a dam holding back the tide,
and admired in their ingenuity.
But these walls of stuff
material and immaterial
hold us in and keep us
from each other,
and even keep us
from ourselves.
