I am looking amongst the rubble,
in the trouble and the war, in the
tragic and the suffering, in the pain
and the loss; I am looking and seeking,
among the ugly and the cruel, looking
for this pearl of great price, this thing
that must be there, this thing that’s
elusive, and hidden in agony, this wondrous,
sweet thing that lies with it all, this thing
of mystery, this eternal thing of Plato’s realm—
this thing, this pearl, called beauty.
