Being close

Being close is not

so good if it means

not seeing

the greater view.

Caught up in minutiae,

one is encased in the detail of

a slave to the

insistent particulars

of things

that are not your own.

And then,

when you move,

shift back and away

and see,

maybe for the first time,

you appreciate

its smallness;

and you are no

longer caught in this

web of expectations.

You are alive,

and you see

that what matters

is the greater view.
