The inlet

In the inlet the flat water

streams with perfect light

and the hues of late day

bring their pleasure to the scene;

while all around the gulls soar

on the warm afternoon currents,

and the children play and

laugh in the sand,

and boats drift in the gentle breeze,

as the sun heads to the sea

to hide its face and with that

the coming of the still night

and the eye of the moon

in soft misty display.
