Fame is immortality
lived above the cycle
of life and death and
the ordinary that for some
is worse than death
in it whimper to an end.
Fame is this delusion
that seems real to those
who choose its charm
and sweet perfume that
draws in the attracted
to its deadly scent.
For fame is no more certain
and no more real than
the tender childish tugging dreams
of what life could be or offer
if only recognition and money
were the keys to happiness’ door.
