Never will I bow to any monarch,

or president or leader who claims

importance, but instead I will stand

and look them in the eyes and ask

the human questions that we all share.

 

Never will I say yes, when I mean no,

or do what I am told like a good little boy,

even if it means I don’t get all I want 

or need, but I do get myself and that

is all a human being ever really needs.

 

Never will I bend to the crown or the rod,

but I will bend to the powerless, the unable,

and those in grief who need me to bow down 

and be where they are and be the living being 

who sees the human not the money or the class.
