It is Mother’s Day
and a mother’s child will
not return, but lies instead
in a rough grave dug along the
battle lines of a pointless war.

No more will this child return,
and no more will this child,
so far way in place unknown,
celebrate a mother’s love,
but the mother is there
instead waiting for her
child to return.
