You are my strength

I realise now these

temporary things,

these things so temporary,

but I am not strong enough

to change my ways,

to bring significance

into what I do and

what I say, and let the

weight have sway.

No, I am not strong enough,

nor have I ever been, for you

are the strength I have,

and you are the tether that

holds this life together;

you are the force of attraction,

while I repel, and you believe

when I hold out no hope at all.

Get behind me, get in front of me,

hold me to myself and turn

me to love, even if I turn the

other way—turn me to love,

even if it is not my way,

and hold me close my love,

even if the light should turn to dark.
