Am I wrong

to condemn religious texts,

texts filled with fear

and regulated hope,

texts used to

define and consign

humans and tell

women and men

how they should

behave, despite the

good they do and

the ways they feel?

 

Am I wrong to point

my critical trembling finger

at religious thinking that

defies sense and evidence

and presents its closed system

as the only way the world

and humans should be?

 

Am I wrong to assert

that my meaning

is my meaning

but we will find

corporate meaning together,

not be told by a text

what holds the world together?

 

Am I wrong if I see

religion as just another

primitive way to control,

and surrender self,

and build the foundations

for a psychic prison

of the human soul?

 

Am I wrong

to think this way?
