For these tender hearts

Oh, sorrow, let me see
these tender hearts,
so stung and pained
by cruel acts
and the hidden barbs
of these righteous men.

Oh, woe to you
who see these tender hearts
and turn from courage
to the cold and barren haven
of your lesser self.

Stand up and say,
shout across the space between
you and I,
that you have heard their cries;
and with your own tears,
tears
that join the flood of theirs,
let justice fall.
