I light a candle

to the ones gone

who were not heroic

but who stood up

and shone in the

everyday, in the

ordinary of their

suffering lives,

in lives lived proud

among the ruins,

in lives of perseverance

that stand as testaments

to the courage

they displayed through

the human desire to

survive and to help

their families see beyond

another war smoked day.
