Spring jumps with colours,
smiling out to my eyes,
and I sit and enjoy its cycle
of hope, with flowers waving
in the wind, as their coat of
many colours covers this
small space held away from
the world just for my peace.
And I toil in the garden, making
it just as it makes for me,
shaping its flesh as the birds
awaken to flit and prod and find
hidden treasures in this home that
is as much theirs for refuge as mine.
But I am reminded mid-breath,
as I look out to this, an artist’s
work, that it is ever just a time:
a full stop in the movement of nature
and humans across this glorious expanse
that changes and forms and shifts
and will on another day be gone.
