Violence is no solution,
just the dissolution of reason,
a rupture of order and sanity,
and the loss of safety,
and the seeping smell of
fear that creeps in with threat,
and the closing of doors that
should be open, the contraction
of good society and concern
for a future where the fist
is the only way to deal with
the differences that makes us
uniquely and fully human.

Can we see a world where we
have opinions without coercion,
concerns without threat,
honesty without fear,
debate without rage,
truth without dishonesty,
without retaliation?

Can you see this world?

Let those who choose order
over chaos, openness without
duplicity, concern without manipulation,
criticism before defaming,
decency beyond attacking,
listening before striking,
respect across everything,
hold sway, rule this day,
be the heroes, not the ones
who hold the guns, tense fists,
use weapons of any kind to
harm, threaten, unleash the
stench of fear, hold the
fragile crystal cup of public
debate to ransom.
