In this darkness where hatred

struck at prayer and song,

I stand with you all close

around the flame that will not die.

 

I stand with the memory burning

strong against this unspeakable act,

each candle lit in sorrow

becomes our unified reply.

 

I stand in solidarity and

I will not turn away for we

are all guardians of this ancient glow,

all keepers of the miracle that

darkness cannot break,

for every act of hate will find

us standing side-by-side,

in strength,

our love too fierce to shake,

our hands together raised up high.

 

The light that kindles in your

homes burns also here, in mine,

for we are one nation built from

many flames that light the world as one.
