My Pinnacle

I may never reach the hights

that you have climbed to look

out across the world and see it

in all its cruel, magnificent grandeur.

I can only reach this lower hill of

lesser praise, obscured by the

mountains that lay ahead, but I

have come further than once believed.

This in my pinnacle and I stand on

it not as you do up in the clouds

and looking down, but gazing proud

at the valley that holds all I desire.

I do not envy you who have found

such height, and I wonder from

this grand vista of heaven’s delight

whether you see me on the ground below.
