Love

The intricate centre of this is love:
the varied textures of body,
feeling, thought and history
that thread together towards-the-other,
but are as vulnerable as they
are enduring, universal and desired,
and spurned equally in the to-and-fro
of (dis)connection, possession, loss,
delusion and life changes;
but strangely, we have not given up
on love, even in the trauma of
pain and hate, even in the
ugly face of rejection,
for it survives its own failures,
and lives like a hungry worm unfinished that
eats away at flesh in all our human stories.
