I will perch on the precious

seat of democracy and call out

to the world to stand against

growing tyranny, to affirm rights

and dignity, to protest against

threats and violence, and bring

clarity into the mirky and unholy

water of ‘truth’ engineered to seem

so reasonable but actually the

horror movie of darkness personified.

 

We must stand and hold firm

to all that has been achieved

as human beings embodying equanimity,

and proud of our societies, built on

inclusion, science and freedom.

 

I will cry on this fragile seat with

raised hands against the machinery

of oppression and war, against the

pretence of fairness that is nothing

more than exploitation, against

the monsters dressed in the robes

of office that are only interested in

the trophies of power gained by

overturning civilised society and

contriving kingdoms from their own hubris.
