This is our gathering,
our family,
here now enfolding with
food and talk like
it has always been
from generations told
in this mystery of blood
that threads across
years from this ancient
man to this young child
given sacred in the hug.

This is connection
that makes more than me
or you and we, creates
the elemental bond
that is life, gives life,
takes life across the years
that flow and stretch so
fast and so slow,
across change that
brings apart but what
is left is always this
mystery of blood.
