Scream

I want to scream through
the unthinking madness,
through the death and
the sounds and the dust of war
till they stop and listen,
feeling the silence long gone,
and wake from this moral slumber
to witness their dark creation
in the rubble of their souls.

But alas I am silenced, and unable
to utter a scream, for nothing is heard across
the distance of tragedy, against political chill
and the barriers of complicity that
absorb every cry, every scream, every bomb.
