I want to say Yes to all
that’s needed and urgent,
and pressing like a weight
on my heaving moral chest.

But what is Yes when there
is so much No?

What is Yes when the forces
of self-interest do not have
the word in their lexicon and NO
means Yes in strategic confusion?

Still, I stand in YES as a guardian
alone on the gate that can open
one way or another and I whisper Yes
to all who pass by with consciousness.
