This is the way of it:
strung out across space,
living in enclosures,
folding in and out
across time,
not knowing which avenues
will open and which direction
will take us with gentleness
or insistence,
for this is the way of it:
the chasing,
the desire,
ever moving and retreating,
resting, sliding again,
urgent and leisurely,
strung out whole across space,
looking to return home.
