Like bacteria on a petri dish,
hate is growing in the darkness,
in the coolness hidden away,
and the agar on which is multiplies
is fear and feelings of isolation
and the thought that this world
is not fair, even cruel, and favours
those outside the narrow spectrum.
It is growing, take heed, and those
who, with distant voices, make the
dish are not concerned with toxicity
but their own agendas and ideologies,
that work against our common creed
of dignity, freedom and prosperity.
Take heed, for this infection can spread
and take away all that is precious in this
world that we have re-crafted for inclusion,
connection and a sense of community.
Take heed, and let us not sit back and let
it grow unchecked without our action to stop
the poison that will change the way we think
about ourselves and the future of this society.
