The great robber
silently breaks into
people’s lives and
takes with it the
promise and the
hope that should
have made for a
full and active life.

The robber works
inward and then
outward to take the
mind down and
then the fragile soul,
reducing this vital
person to a prisoner
on a cold death row.

The robber has no
empathy or regard
for the stripping of
a being but comes
instead relentless,
so that even drugs
cannot hold it back
or prevent this fate.
