It is the state of humans
that some have advantage
and others not, and this
is the vexed history of our
species where poverty and
riches are travelling companions
on the way to dusty death.

And fight as we might about
the rights of all to the good
life, this remains the condition
of beings caught tightly between
the will to survive and the drive
to thrive in a world given to progress
and the carnivorous appetite of Capital.
