The sleepless night surrounds
me with its silence, and I
lie awake with thoughts of
you far away, you who drifted
from my life and became this
stranger as if all that we were
is a dream in the infinite dark,
a dream that dissolves in the waking.
I wonder if you, too, lie awake
in the shadows before dawn and
think of our time when we thought
nothing was better than the two
of us, together tender in the
fragile arms of the night, embracing
before the cold coming of the
morning light and separation again.
