We are,
every one of us,
measured by history,
whether we believe it or not.

History consigns us
and defines us,
puts us on the moral scale
to assess. right and wrong.

Generations not yet born,
will look back and apply
the yardstick of their consciousness
to all we have done
and not done in the times
of our making
that shaped their world.

How do we want to be
measured and understood
for our decisions, divisions,
turns at forks in the road
where we might
have gone this way or that
and perhaps another?

This is about memory,
rememberance,
taking account for legacies,
and embracing some risks
that might just
lead to a better world.
