Is poetry safe,
like you’ve studied in school,
and you read it and
say what you think it means?

Or is it dangerous-a threat-
taking us to places and thoughts
that we may not have had before,
an challenging our treasured
ways of seeing the world
and our selves?

Is poetry safe?

Should it be burnt in the fires
that consume dangerous thoughts?
