We who are privileged to
be here see the morning
spring sun rise over the
bay and remove the shadows
of the waiting landscape
with its deep oranges
turning inevitably to bright
yellow as the crisp cold
wakens our skin and the trill
of birds fills our ears with
the shared joy of the new day.
