Like you, I must check
what comes into my
thoughts as shards that
cut away at my tender
parts and scar the heart
of what I am as a being
of empathy and care.

I must guard this tender
realm, that is positive
about the world, and pick
out those bits that inflame
my loving eye so that I
choose to gaze not upon the
other with contempt and
prejudice but with the vision
to see the good and the grand.
