If I could relieve you
of all the suffering
that might come, I would,
and if I could take away
the troubles that you
must face, this would be
a happy day in my life.

But I know, my precious ones,
that I can do none of this,
for you must live your life
and confront all the frailty
and circumstance that life
will bring in being human
and holding in your own hands
the wonder of this only gift.
