Humanity is morally torn
by chains of possession
in fields and factories,
ships and houses,
under the whip’s cruel play
in the plain light of day.,
sometimes subtle,
sometimes bold.

Children sold to strangers,
families cleaved
and consumed by hidden grief,
as this monster
claimed lives in
the hidden millions,
and cut its way across continents
and Nations,
Peoples and Traditions.

But this grim depravity,
whose echoes still remain,
and shapes the lives
of millions still,
could not hold back the
brave hearts driven by
conviction and acting
in gentle rebellion against
the monster to which those
who held the power
sold their souls.
