Seeking truth

You seek a truth for all time,
as a sort of antidote for
uncertainty that pervades the
human condition like a pox
that never really gives way.

You seek this truth as if it
is the proper and only way to
see the world, and the thought
of truth as a product of history
scares you in your retreat to the
good old days and orthodox ways.

You shy away from seeing that truth
is a territory owned by those who
create knowledge and control this
creation through power, making a
truth suitable for the palate of all
good people who wish to partake.

I will concede that there is a truth
for all time that has moved and shifted
across all countries, cultures, histories,
that is the truth of you and me here
in conversation face-to-face, here but
elusive. bound to each other but free.
