Requiem

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine

We shall remember your
finer days as springtime and
summer warmth across the
coastal plains and the chill
of winter’s abrupt contrast
in winds, and rains and snow
on faraway lofty peaks.

But most of all, we will remember
your autumn days of fall in calm abiding
and warm midday sun with fresh nights
that made us feel alive once more
after summer’s tiresome torrid heat.

This is our requiem for you as we recall
the seasons you wrought for us hapless
creatures living without thought upon this
tender moving rock strung out among the
ether from which, in eons past, it was born.

We will remember the forms most beautiful
that sat upon your skin that shalt be no more.
