Is it true that pop culture,
populism and pop music
have eroded the foundations
of our debate and democratic
ideas to such an extent that
many people are not caused to
think much about anything
of consequence any more?
Not willing to sway away
from expectations and
comfortable routines,
and this way of life that
they deserve to have.
Have no concerns, at least
not ones they are willing
to talk about.
Is it true?
Or have I missed the mark
with my own blind spot?
Does politics matter,
or is it on the nose so
that we do not care to
get a whiff of the stench?
Seems to me that those who care
and protest their views are
just disruptors of our
comfortable lives,
the annoying pebble in our shoes,
the odd-balls and dissidents
that need to behave themselves.
Well, at least that’s the way
the popular media present them:
standing in the way of those of
us who want to get on with
our lives and not cause a fuss.
Here’s my view, for what it is
worth–and maybe it’s worth
nothing at all, but I throw it
out in your direction hoping
nonetheless to challenge your
way of thinking about your
your life, about the world,
about the state of the earth and
who has share in this fragile
place that we call home.
Here is my view.
Democracy matters more than ever.
Debate is not a luxury for the few.
Thinking is now about survival (think about that).
Pop has become a word synonymous with compliance.
Politics is about all of us and cannot be dismissed
I stand here,
even if I am blind and
have well and truly missed the mark.
Where do you stand?
