Darkness and light
sprung from your mouth,
from your words,
that challenged,
disturbed,
satisfied,
and you were
never comfortable
with being comfortable,
for you saw the world
through your own truth,
against the wind,
in the cause of change.
This is the essence
that lives in your music
and the witness of your
life that saw darkness,
tragedy, the jibes of
those who wanted to
make you a mockery,
but also moments of
insight, clarity
and the courage to call
out that which needed
to be called.
You are and ever will
be for me the poet warrior,
standing up, never still,
wanting more in a world
that is happy with less.
