Dignity

The dignity of every being

is not an option that can

be argued away as if it is

a private matter of taste

or an intriguing public debate.

Dignity is as essential as the

air we breathe, and the water

we drink and the food that

sustains us as creatures of need.

Dignity is not given as if it is

a title bestowed on the deserving

few who happen to be in favour.

It is inherent, essential, a given

for each being that treads upon

this daunting stage of life and

tries to find a meaning to it all.

Dignity brings the value of all

beings into focus—each person,

unique, should be considered

as if they are the last person left.
